U.S. CONSUMER BANKRUPTCY FILINGS UP 30% OVER LAST YEAR

The American Bankruptcy Institute reports that consumer bankruptcy filings are up 30% over the same period last year, relying on figures provided by the National Bankruptcy Research Center (NBKRC). Over 82,000 consumer bankruptcy cases were filed in June 2008 nationwide, compared with 68,559 consumer filings recorded in June 2007.
