SUDDEN ACTION ON BANKRUPTCY BILL – HOUSE REPUBLICANS TO TRY TO CIRCUMVENT SENATE

The Bankruptcy Reform Act, which will make it MUCH more difficult and costly to file Bankruptcy, is reportedly going to move on the Hill shortly. House Republicans plan to use a procedural move to circumvent the Senate entirely. They will take the temporary extension of ch. 12 passed by the Senate (family farm bankruptcy) and add as an amendment the language of the House-passed bankruptcy bill H.R. 975 (last year’s conference report, minus the Schumer/Hyde FACE language.) They will then demand a conference.
This will avoid both the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate floor debate.
If you have a point of view on this issue, time is of the essence in communicating that view with your elected representatives.
Spokespersons for consumer bankruptcy attorneys suggest you call your congressional delegation and demand that they observe regular order, with the bill going to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
