The American Bankruptcy Institute reports that a poll released yesterday by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) shows that “only about one-quarter of all Americans want President Bush to sign bankruptcy legislation,” according to CongressDaily.
The bankruptcy legislation (S. 420, H.R. 333) passed in both the House and Senate and now awaits the conference committee process. The poll also said that a large majority of Americans are not aware of “controversial features of the legislation.”
The poll, which was conducted by Opinion Research Corp. International, found that 28 percent of respondents think the president should sign the legislation, while 49 percent believe he should veto it.
We can only hope that the President will veto this anti-consumer legislation, particularly in light of current economic conditions, layoffs, higher energy prices, etc. Please write, call or email the President and urge him to veto this legislation.
