The News Journal reported that a small group of community activists picketed outside MBNA Corp. headquarters on Tuesday, demanding that the nation’s second-largest credit card bank stop supporting bankruptcy reform legislation. Members of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) criticized MBNA’s financial contributions to members of Congress, estimated at nearly
$1 million in the current election cycle and $3.6 million in the 2000 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The group called on the bank and Chief Executive Alfred Lerner to withdraw support for the bill.
