The Houston Bar Foundation presented J. Thomas Black with an award today for the Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Houston Bar Association Houston Volunteer Lawyer’s Program for 2003.The award was presented to Mr. Black at the Foundation’s Annual Luncheon held at The Houston Club in downtown Houston, before 300 prominent attorneys and judges.

The event programs reads:
Not only has solo practitioner J. Thomas Black taken nine pro bono cases this year, he has taken the most pro bono bankruptcy cases of any individual. According to HVLP, bankruptcy cases are among the most difficult to place. A 1982 graduate of South Texas College of Law, Black’s willingness to take on especially difficult bankruptcy cases has made him an outstanding example of the power of individual contributions to the program. A consumer bankruptcy specialist, Black was recently recognized by the Bankruptcy Bar for his participation in and commitment to the Pro Bono Bankruptcy Program, which is administered by HVLP.
