Tax Exempt Credit Counseling Organizations have traditionally helped Americans to reduce their borrowing costs and do a better job of financial planning. IRS Commissioner Mark Everson has now indicated that the IRS may be proposing the revocation of the tax-exempt status of companies representing between 40 percent and 50 percent of the gross receipts of the industry. These IRS actions will, in part, be based on compliance checks under the jurisdiction of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division of the IRS.
