Despite the fact that earlier this week Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) did not include the bankruptcy reform legislation as part of his fall legislation priority list, Senate Finance Committee ranking member Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) said he remains optimistic that work on the bill would be completed this year. Grassley, along with Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), said they remain “hopeful” that a conference committee on the bankruptcy reform legislation can complete its work shortly, although neither had any information on when the panel would meet.
Sources said House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), who is chairing the conference committee, has indicated that the panel will meet formally for the first time next week.
