Figures show ordinary households are cutting back on credit, but commercial lending is taking up the slack as business borrows to expand.
Outstanding business debts passed the $400 billion mark at the end of last year, with growth tipped to continue.
A spokesman for NAB said the bank planned to make $12 billion more available to its business lending arm this year to meet anticipated demand.
