Congressional aides have confirmed that House and Senate bankruptcy reform conferees will meet formally on Tuesday, according to a report in CongressDaily. Also making news yesterday was Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.)who said he would uphold the Senate Democratic position on clinic access
when the conferees meet.
Despite Biden’s pro-abortion rights record, questions have come up as to whether he would break with Democratic counterparts on some of the bill’s outstanding issues due to his support for the underlying bankruptcy bill. The clinic issue has been a point of contention for conferees.
According to CongressDaily, aides to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman
Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said on Monday that progress has been made on the homestead language as well as the clinic access language, but both Senate and House sources affirmed that no final agreement had been reached. The sources said they expect amendments and votes on both topics at Tuesday’s
meeting.
