Some of my clients admit to me that what got them into trouble, was gambling. Here in Texas, many of them go to the casinos in Louisiana, very close by to us here in Houston.
As a Wall Street Journal article pointed out today, gambling can ruin you and put you in bankruptcy. As reported in today’s WSJ, David Williams went through his life savings, ended up mortgaging his house and filing personal bankruptcy, after gambling away his life at a glitzy riverboat casino docked on the Ohio River near Evansville, Indiana.
According to his lawyer, “Gambling is a game, but pathological gambling is a sickness.” Mr. Williams is suing for $175,000 after he lost that much, after being targeted by direct mail by the casino, and allegedly not being prevented from gambling after the casino knew or should have known he had a problem.
